Wigram has been built out fast on the old airbase land, so a lot of the drainage under it is recent. That shifts the work toward new connections, drainlaying for new builds, and getting the fall right first time on a flat site, which is fussier than it sounds.
The older streets around the edges are a different job again, with drainage of an earlier vintage sitting next to the new. We put a camera down before anyone digs, so the decision is based on what is actually in the ground.

Why does a flat Wigram site need more care with fall?
A drain works on gravity, and on flat ground there is very little of it to play with. Getting the fall right at the laying stage is what stops a line that technically drains but silts up every year.
